What is the point in saying "may I ask" and then follow it up with a question?

Makes about as much sense as a see-through blindfold.

It gives the person the option to say if the want to answer the question or not. so I think. :->

You can always answer "no" very quickly...that tends to confuse people. :)

Did you ever play the question game? Every thing that comes out of your mouth has to be a question, whoever first makes a statement loses. It's a lot of fun, and as you play with the same person over and over again, the game gets longer and longer.
